  • When did Community & Family Learning begin?

    Almost 20 years ago! Our first courses began in 2006 when we started delivering Family Learning. In 2018, Nottingham City Council received additional ring-fenced funding to provide education in the community. Hence, Community & Family Learning was formed.

  • What's the purpose of Community Learning?

    Our Community Learning programmes are for adults (aged 19+) from all backgrounds. Our courses are informal, non-accredited and support progression to further learning or employment by empowering learners to improve their personal development, health & wellbeing and life skills.

  • What's the purpose of Family Learning?

    Family Learning provides learning opportunities for parents/carers and their children. Courses focus on strengthening family bonds, supporting their child’s development and improving literacy and numeracy skills of both child and parent/carer.

  • How many learners enrol on your courses?

    Community & Family Learning courses are very popular in Nottingham. Last year, we delivered over 150 courses and almost 1100 enrolments, of which, 95% of learners achieved or partially achieved their learning aims. This year we expect the number of enrolments to be even higher!

  • How is Community & Family Learning funded?

    We are primarily funded through the Adult Skills Fund (ASF). The allocation for 2024/25 was determined and distributed by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA). All future allocations will be determined by the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).

  • How do you ensure learners are safe?

    We take the safety of our learners very seriously. We carry out thorough risk assessments for all our venues. Whilst teaching staff undergo rigorous recruitment checks and are trained in safeguarding, Prevent and GDPR. Learners are informed about our safeguarding procedures at induction.

  • How do you choose which courses to deliver?

    Our courses are determined by three factors; our funding requirements, local priorities identified by the Council and you. So, if you have an idea for a course that would benefit your community speak to your tutor or get it touch by emailing learn@nottinghamcity.gov.uk

  • How are the delivery partners chosen?

    When seeking delivery partners the Council holds a open and transparent tendering process. We are keen to work with partners who can engage learners, raise aspirations, deliver courses in the community and meet our high standards for both teaching and safeguarding learners.
